DoE’s Natural Environment Deputy Visit to “Lake Urmia Restoration via Local Communities’ Participation and Biodiversity Conservation” Project Activities in East and West Azerbaijan
During a 2-day field visit on (9th and 10th May, 2018) Dr. Zohrabi, Natural Environment Deputy, visited measurements and activities related to sustainable agriculture, alternative livelihood pilot sites, women micro credit fund and also PES (Payment for Ecosystem Services) pilot which have been implemented by CIWP (joint project between DoE and UNDP) in east and west Azerbaijan to conserve and wisely use Lake Urmia and its satellite wetlands’ services and functions.
Following expressing his gratitude to CIWP activities in intersectional cooperation improvement and local communities’ participation in Lake Urmia and its satellite wetlands restoration, Natural Environment Deputy emphasized on wetlands’ restoration, conservation and water right supply to sustain local community livelihood.
20 villages in Lake Urmia basin have been added to the project in phase V and it is currently under progress covering 130 villages
