The Second Management Planning Workshop for Gawatr Bay and Khur-e-Bahoo
The second Management Planning workshop for Khur-e-Bahoo and Gowatr Bay (wetlands of international importance) was held on May 2018 in Chabahar.
During the workshop, priority actions to conserve and manage Khur-e-Bahoo and Gowatr Bay were determined by all local and governmental stakeholders, and implementing organizations’ role in these measurements were identified.
Ecosystem based approach as DoE’s main approach in wetlands management has a significant role in all stakeholders’ participation in wetlands conservation and restoration and basin integrated management plan has identified all organizations responsibilities in wetlands management and wise use.
National project manager pointed to Khur-e-Bahoo and Gowatr Bay international and boundary wetlands high potentials in providing livelihoods for local communities and economic prosperity of the region, he also added nowadays these wetlands have important role in region’s fishery economy and have provided a significant habitat for Oman sea and Indian ocean economically important fishes and protecting this habitat is essential for sustainable livelihoods of fishermen in long term.
However, the region’s mangrove forests are dependent on Bahoo Kalat River’s water which it will be possible to supply required water for these wetlands by predicted actions in the management plan.
It should be mentioned that this wetland management plan will be provided in near future and will be handed over to provincial authorities to be approved.
