Symposium on Consolidation and Generalization of the achievements of the CIWP by Reviewing the Experiences of the Urmia Lake Rehabilitation Project
In a symposium, the conservation of the Iranian
wetland project
reviewed the experiences gained from the last seven phases of the Urmia Lake rehabilitation project. It formulated a roadmap for consolidating and generalizing the project's achievements with national and
provincial experts, stakeholders, specialists, and experts.
In this regard, the conservation of the Iranian wetland project (CIWP) hosted a group of national and provincial experts on Monday, June 21, 2021, in a meeting held in the Department of Environment conference hall. Specialists in three areas of management, sustainable agricultural establishment, and livelihood diversification formed panels and exchanged experiences.
"The purpose of this meeting is to be able to identify the current shortcomings by attending and working with stakeholders and using their ideas to improve performance along the way." Dr. Ahmad Reza Lahijanzadeh, the national project director of the CIWP project, said in the program.
"By holding this consensus meeting, we seek to develop a new program that is in line with the region's culture and grows it to protect the environment," Lahijanzadeh added.
Mehri Asnaashari, national project manager of CIWP, also commented on the meeting: "the processes carried out by the project in previous years will be reviewed to develop a project implementation approach in the coming years."
"In formulating plans, we emphasize the establishment of an ecological approach, capacity building, and empowerment of the local community to adapt to climate change and start activities in Khuzestan and Fars provinces with a suitable perspective," Asnaashari added.
In the specialized panels of this meeting, stakeholders from the Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization, Jihad Agricultural Organizations and the General Department of Environmental Protection of East and West Azerbaijan Provinces, Lake Urmia Rehabilitation Headquarters, representatives of companies and executives, representatives of the local community Farmers and rural women, a representative of the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare and experts from related fields were present.
