The customs of the international wetlands’ day will be observed by the Department of Environment of Kurdistan province and Zarivar wetland.
Concerning the international wetlands’ Day in 2019, The national manager of Conservation of Iranian Wetlands Project asserted that “these customs are observed annually on February 2nd concurrent with the international wetlands’ day, adopted from the resolution date of wetlands’ convention in Ramsar city in 1971. Simultaneous with the celebration of these customs in the world, Iran will also formally observe various programs suitable for its practice and towards the enhancement of awareness level and recognition of the country’s wetlands with the presence of all national, international, and local involved activists in this domain in different wetland cities.”
He added: This year, the customs of the international wetlands’ day with the slogan of ‘life flourishes in wetlands’ and ‘biodiversity of wetlands is important’ will be observed in Sanandaj – Marivan cities in Kurdistan province.
During these customs, the wetland heroes and model forest rangers are introduced and appreciated like the past years. To identify, collect, and categorize the successful experiences associated with the optimal protection of wetland ecosystems and encourage and propagate wetland culture at different levels in the country, the collective efforts of the Department of Environment, Iranian wetlands’ protection project, and regional center of Ramsar gave rise to the annual observation of the event of selecting the wetland hero concurrent with the international wetlands’ day, hosted by one of the wetland provinces.
Ali Arvahi continued: At present, the country’s wetlands suffer from some problems and environmental stresses. In some cases, the Iranian wetlands’ protection project has successfully introduced and institutionalized holistic and participatory methods based on an ecosystem approach for the management and protection of Iranian wetlands and has supported the compilation of the comprehensive management program for 34 wetlands of the country. To this end, it has paved the way for the participation of all beneficiaries in the process of decision-building, decision-making, and the exploitation of local knowledge besides modern technologies by observing over 50 consulting workshops, field practices, visits, and many scientific and technical meetings
