World Wetlands Day 2020 was held in Municipality of District 20 of Tehran
Conservation of Iranian Wetlands Project participated in the World Wetlands Day Conference hosted by the Municipality of district 20 of Tehran on February 4, 2020.
“This conference was held in Valiasr Academy’s Conference Hall with the presence of more than 100 experts, managers, and stakeholders of the Department of Environment and Tehran Municipality . In this conference CIWP tried to present much more information about the importance of the wetland’s conservation and restoration along with the fields of joint cooperation with related stakeholders for wetlands as one of the most important ecosystems on the earth” ” added the National Director of the CIWP.
In this conference, the National Project Manager presented the main objectives of this project in order to introduce and localize the international experience in the country including applying new wetland management approaches entitled “Ecosystem Management” . “ wetlands integrated management plans for 17 wetland in the country have already been approved and implemented and 17 other wetlands in the country are being in the process of developing and approving. , he added.
Moreover, the necessity of inter-sectoral partnerships among all the relevant organizations for wetlands’ conservation and restoration was mentioned by Arvahi. He also added that “Wetlands cities Mayors network is also being facilitated by CIWP”.“If such a network is established, we will have the opportunity to increase the awareness of Wetlands cities’ Mayors about the importance and the value of the wetlands and help them implement the standards of wetland cities proposed by the Ramsar Convention”, Arvahi added.
Finally, he mentioned that “This network will help create a competitive condition among the mayors for meeting the criteria for Green Urban Management and designation of their cities in Ramsar Convention as wetland cities as well as sharing the mayors of wetland cities’ experiences and achievements with each other during the conference, CIWPs’ achievements and publication were also shared with stakeholders.
