Given the importance and the special critical ecologic conditions of this lake, the main objective of the development of this plan is to establish a uniform framework for plans and operations of relevant national and provincial organizations in the catchment area, while considering the principles of ecosystem management. This plan was developed through a number of advisory workshops and after eliciting the opinions of all the stakeholders in the catchment area of Lake Urmia, and after a number of revisions, it was finalized.
The ultimate goal is to establish an ecosystemic management system for Lake Urmia and its satellite wetlands based on the integrated management principles of soil and water at the catchment area as well as the sustainable development and the effective participation of all the stakeholders, including the local communities, in the management of the lake.
